Women’s golf wins Rossin Memorial Invite

CANONSBURG, PennUPIKE women’s golf shook off some rust to win the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Invitational on Monday in dominant fashion.

The Bears (+145) took the top four spots individually to win by 77 strokes over Washington & Jefferson (+222).

Boo Newsome (+25) won the individual medal by 12 strokes over her teammate, Alexis Stambaugh (+37). Newsome shot the lowest two rounds of the tournament to lead wire-to-wire. Stambaugh was the only other competitor to shoot a sub-90 round when she shot 89 on Monday.

Grace Morris (+40) and Adriane Mason (+43) finished third and fourth respectively to also earn all-tournament honors. Ashley Richmond (+50) finished sixth as an individual competitor and  Ashley Chaney (+54) finished eighth to round out the UPIKE outings.

This tune-up is preparation for the Bears who will head just across the Ohio River to compete in the Shawnee State Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Friendship, Ohio in the final tournament of the fall season.
