EKB Sports Super 7: Eagles, Pirates share top spot

The Johnson Central Golden Eagles and Belfry Pirates have now won six straight games each following season-opening losses to West Virginia powers Capital and Huntington High.

The two eastern Kentucky powers find themselves tied for the top spot in this week’s EKB Sports Super 7 poll released Monday.

Johnson Central (6-1) rolled to a 51-0 victory over Greenup County while the Pirates turned away Cabell Midland, 36-28.

Shelby Valley, now 6-1, slipped ahead of Pikeville (4-2), which was idle last week, into third place. The Wildcats hammered Prestonsburg, 49-0. The Panthers are back in action Friday night at Phelps and enter the game ranked fourth.

Paintsville climbed to fifth place this week following the Tigers (6-2) 52-0 victory over Fairview.

Rounding out this week’s poll are sixth-ranked Mingo Central (4-2) and Lawrence County (5-3). The Miners rolled over Nitro 65-26 while the Bulldogs (5-3) cruised past Pike Central, 38-7.
