Jackson earns Player of the Week honors

Johnson  Central running back Joe Jackson rushed for 291 yards and five touchdowns in the Golden Eagles 51-0 victory over Greenup County this past weekend.

He scored on runs of 72, 48, 93, 3 and 7 yards as the Golden Eagles improved to 6-1.

Jackson for his effort has been the EKB Sports Player of the Week.

Here are other nominees from this past weekend:

Shelby Valley running back Seth Johnson rushed for three touchdowns and went over 1,000 yards on the year in the Wildcats’ 49-0 win over Prestonsburg. He finished with 209 yards on 15 carries.

Letcher Central running back Hunter Campbell ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars raced past North Laurel, 33-13. He also had for catches for 91 yards and one score

Lawrence County running back Baden Gillispie rushed only seven times for 125 yards and three first-period touchdowns as the Bulldogs improved to 5-3.

Mingo Central quarterback Daylin Goad passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Miners to a 65-26 road win over Nitro.

East Ridge running back Kane Taylor carried 34 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns in the Warriors road loss at Twin Valley.

Shelby Valley running back Dalton Meade had 119 yards and scored three touchdowns, including two on the ground, in the win over the Blackcats.

Mingo Central receiver Drew Hatfield hauled in five catches for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Magoffin County running back Brady Whitaker rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and returned a punt for another, as the Hornets defeated Knott County Central, 26-6.

Belfry quarterback Avery Browning ran for one touchdown and threw for another in the Pirates 36-28 win over Cabell Midland.

Logan’s Shawntez Matthews had two long touchdown runs, including an 82-yard sprint to win the game as the Wildcats knocked off Scott, 30-27.

Floyd Central quarterback Caleb  Hager rushed 10 times for 127 yards and one touchdown and passed for 64 yards and another as the Jaguars held off Sheldon Clark, 16-12.
