SOCCER: P’burg girls beat Walton-Verona in All ‘A’

FRANKFORT – Prestonsburg goalkeeper Chelsea Samons was solid in helping lead the Lady Blackcats to a 4-1 win over Walton-Verona in the All “A” Classic state tournament Saturday.

Prestonsburg, now 10-5-1, was scheduled to play Lexington Christian Saturday as well but the match was canceled because of weather.

Elizabeth Burchett and Makayla Slone added one goal and one assist each while Makayla Ousley had a pair of assists.

In other girls’ matches Saturday:

Belfry goalkeeper Kenzie Maynard finished with 17 saves as the Lady Pirates earned a 1-1 tie with Nitro.

Kylie Gollihue had Belfry’s lone unassisted goal in the 18th minute. The Wildcats tied the match on Elora Shinn’s penalty kick in the 73rd minute.
Belfry is now 9-5-1.

Lawrence County’s Jordan Stepp and Emily Webb scored two goals each to power the Lady Bulldogs to a 10-0 win over Pikeville at Bob Amos Soccer Complex.

Webb also had two assists and Stepp one.

Hayleigh Fletcher added one goal and two assists and Ellie Webb had one goal and one assist.

Zayla Granillo, Sarah Lycans, Kylie Maynard and Aubrey West each added one goal.

Allyson Moore recorded the shutout as Lawrence County improved to 13-1-0.

Pikeville dropped to 1-9-0.

Letcher Central fell to Boyd County, 4-2, in the R.C. Classic played at Rowan County High School in Morehead.

In boys’ matches:

Belfry’s Christian Long scored four assisted goals as the Pirates defeated Ashland Blazer at Tomcat Stadium.

He scored in the second, eighth, 67th and 79th minutes to help the Pirates improve to 5-5-1.

Ashland’s only goal came off a corner kick from Logan Howell.

Belfry goalkeeper Caleb Spears had 10 saves as the Tomcats, now 3-11-1, took 16 shots on goal.

Prestonsburg was eliminated from the All “A” Classic state tournament as Danville blanked the Blackcats, 4-0.
