Lawrence County’s Luke Cassell scored a pair of unassisted goals and teammate S.J. Lycans added one as the Bulldogs rallied to beat Belfry, 3-1, in a match played at the Dawg House Thursday night.
Belfry, now 4-5-1, took a 1-0 lead on Christian Long’s goal in the 45th minute of the second half.
Lawrence County goalkeeper Trent Adkins had 10 saves as the Pirates took 15 shots on goal. The Bulldogs improved to 10-2-1.
Belfry goalkeeper Colby Mullins stopped nine of Lawrence County’s 13 shots.
In girls’ action Thursday, Belfry’s Robbi-Ann Brewer scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute of the opening half and the Lady Pirates held on for a 1-0 win over Boyd County in a match at Cannonsburg Thursday.
Goalkeeper Kenzie Maynard had 11 saves as the Lady Lions took 13 shots on goal.
Belfry is now 9-5-0 while Boyd dropped to 4-8-0.
Pikeville ended an eight-match losing streak as the Lady Panthers defeated Sheldon Clark, 3-1, at Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
Goalkeeper Kaylee Thacker received support from Emma Johns, Taylor McKinney and Sydney Williamson who scored one goal apiece. Pikeville is now 1-8-0.
Sheldon Clark’s lone goal came from Kaitlyn Gauze. The Lady Cardinals dropped to 5-7-0.
In other matches, Letcher Central tied Clairborne, Tenn., 2-2; and Johnson Central defeated Rowan County, 5-2.
