Men’s soccer extends win streak to three

PIKEVILLEUPIKE men’s soccer kept the positive results coming in on Wednesday with a 6-0 win against Warren Wilson.

Pikeville (5-3) now has tied its best start in program history, equaling the 2009 squad that also started 5-3.

The Bears dominated the match from start to finish, outshooting the Owls 34-3. Kaseem Wedderburn got his first career start in goal but didn’t face a single shot on goal from Warren Wilson.

Eric Bernabeu opened the scoring with some lovely passing between him and Tindur Asbjornsson in the 19th minute. This marks the third straight game with a goal scored for Bernabue, who now sits at 13 goals on the year.

Rze Culbreath scored his second goal of the season in the 39th minute after a bad goalie clearance hit Culbreath in the chest and he returned it back past the keeper. Oscar Pacheco also scored just before halftime to give UPIKE a 3-0 lead.

The second half allowed some of the UPIKE reserves and lesser known suspects get in on the scoring, starting with Andres Alvarez’ first goal of the season. Aaron Aven joined him in the goal-scorers club soon after with his first, which was gifted to him from Aaron Broyles first assist of the season.

Daniel Bosse-Joseph closed the scoring in the waning minutes with a goal on his first shot on the season. The assist on his goal came from Jorge Mejia who saw the pitch for just the second time this season.

UPIKE will try to extend the win streak to four when the Bears travel to Fisk University on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff in Nashville, Tenn.
