Roberts leads Panthers past rival Tigers

PIKEVILLE – Pikeville senior quarterback Connor Roberts took matters into his own hands this past Friday night in leading the Panthers to a 36-13 win over Paintsville in a matchup of Class 1A football power at Hillard Howard Field.

Roberts rushed 10 times for 232 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 179 yards and two more scores as Pikeville moved to 3-0. His 82-yard touchdown run with just less than seven minutes left in the first period put the Panthers ahead to stay.

He then hit Christian Billiter with a 70-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 at the break.

Roberts ran for two, second-half scores and passed to Billiter for another. Billiter hauled in four passes for 132 yards.

Paintsville quarterback Jake Hyden ran 10 yards for a touchdown and Jaylyn Allen added a 14-yard TD run for the Tigers, now 2-2. Hyden finished with 86 yards rushing on 26 carries.

Pikeville will host Belfry (2-1) and Paintsville will journey to Williamsburg (3-1) Friday night.
