Jagaurs cruise past Dragons in opener

LANGLEY – Floyd Central dominated both sides of the football from start to finish as the Jaguars steamrolled to a 44-6 win over Harlan in the season opener for both teams Friday.

Running back Josh Whitaker finished with 162 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns on 16 carries to lead the attack. Elijah Cotton added 63 yards and one TD run on six rushes. His score covered 58 yards.

Caleb Hager, in his first start at quarterback, passed for 74 yards, rushed for 45, while scoring a touchdown and throwing for another. His TD run was 43 yards.

The Jaguars rushed for 313 yards and finished with 387 as a team.

Ethan Smith-Mills had a touchdown catch of 53 yards and returned an interception 60 yards for another score.

Floyd Central will play at Betsy Layne Friday night in the first of six straight road games.
