P’burg soccer cruises; Lady Warriors volleyball dominates

Prestonsburg’s Matt Burchett scored a pair of goals and Isaiah Collins added another as the Blackcats defeated Paintsville, 3-2, in a match played at StoneCrest Complex on Thursday night.

Prestonsburg improved to 3-0-0 while the Tigers dropped to 0-2-0.

Lawrence County goalkeeper Trenton Adkins made just enough stops as the Bulldogs edged Sheldon Clark, 2-1, in a match played at The Rock.

Tyler Maynard had one goal and assisted on another while Will Dillow scored as the Bulldogs moved to 3-0-0.

Bobby Hale scored the Cardinals only goal off an assist by Josh Gauze in the Cardinals opening match of the season.

In girls’ action, Kelsey Hale scored off a penalty kick to lift Letcher Central to a thrilling 1-0 win over Harlan County in a match played at Cougar Field.

Goalkeeper Kassandra Ramirez was solid as the Lady Cougars won their season opener.

Prestonsburg’s Elizabeth Burchett scored six goals to power the Lady Blackcats to a 10-0 win over Paintsville in a match at StoneCrest Complex.

Shelby Blackburn and Makayla Ousley added to goals each as Prestonsburg improved to 2-0-0. Goalkeeper Chelsea Samons was solid by recording the shutout.

VOLLEYBALL

East Ridge continued to cruise with a 3-0 win over Pike County Central in a match played at the Hawks Nest on Thursday night.

Haylee Meade set a school record for assists in a three-set match for the second consecutive match with 38. She added four kills and 12 digs in the 25-15, 25-12 and 25-22 win.

Hannah King finished with 18 kills and 10 digs while Kyra Looney added 11 kills and 11 digs.

Sarah Tackett had 10 kills, Kelsi Slone totaled 29 digs and Haley Park contributed 11 as the Lady Warriors improved to 3-0. Pike Central dropped to 1-2.

Floyd Central improved to 3-0 with a dominating performance against Lawrence County in a match at Langley.

Caley Howard had eight kills in the 25-6, 25-1 and 25-13 match. Amelia Wallace finished with 18 digs as the Lady Jags moved to 3-0. Lawrence County fell to 1-2.

Paintsville pushed its record to 4-0 with a 3-1 win over Sheldon Clark in a home match.

Megan Taylor totaled 36 kills and had seven blocks in the 28-30, 25-21, 25-8 and 25-23 win.

Anna James had 40 digs and Lindsey Nelson collect 40 assists.
