EKB Sports has confirmed that Mingo Central boys’ basketball coach Kevin Hatfield has stepped down from his position.
He cited taking another work position outside the school system as one of a number of factors in his decision.
Hatfield said those work duties would not allow him to dedicate the time it takes to run a high school program.
His best year with the Miners came in 2016-17 when he guided his team to an overall record of 20-7 and a berth into the state tournament. Mingo Central was eliminated in the semifinals by eventual champion Fairmont Senior.
Hatfield was 34-16 over two seasons.
He was a former player and coach at Burch High School prior to the consolidation of four county schools to form Mingo Central.
His oldest of four sons, Drew, played for his dad.
The next coach hired will become the school’s sixth since 2012.
