ew did his part to keep his team in the game against Lawrence County until he reached his pitch-count limit in the sixth inning.
The Bulldogs took advantage to plate seven runs in the frame to eliminate the Hornets, 11-1, in the opening round of the 15th Region tournament played on Memorial Day at Johnson Central.
Brandon Turnmire doubled and scored the lone Phelps run as the Hornets finished up 17-10 and reached the tournament field for the first time in 10 years. Garrett Clevenger had the only other hit for Phelps.
Jackson Feltner belted a home run and drove in a pair of runs while Jarrett Fairchild doubled, scored and knocked in a pair of runs as the Bulldogs moved to 31-7. Corbin Fairchild had a pair of doubles, scored two runs and added an RBI.
Tyler Maynard went six innings to earn the win.
