POCA, W.Va. – Chapmanville Regional hurler Kenzie McCann tossed a three-hit shutout as the Lady Tigers blanked Poca, 3-0, to claim its third straight Class AA, Region 4 title on Tuesday.
McCann, who tossed her 12th shutout this season, did not allow the Lady Dots (22-10) to score a single run in the post season and blanked them for the third time this year.
She struck out nine batters and did not walk a batter as CRHS moved to 21-3 overall.
Kara Little, who was three-for-three at the plate, scored the eventual game-winning when she raced home on a two-out throwing error by Poca losing pitcher Taylor Bonnet in the top of the second inning. Little had half of her team’s hits.
Poca’s biggest threat against McCann came in the home sixth inning when Mercedes Bush drove a triple to deep right field with two outs. McCann was then able to retire Molly Collins on a pop out to shortstop.
The Lady Tigers put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh inning when McCann tripled home Shea Butcher from first base and then scored herself when Bailey Parsons reached on a fielder’s choice.
Poca went quietly in the seventh inning.
Chapmanville Regional will return to action at Jackson Park in Vienna, W.Va., next Wednesday against Region 3 winner Wyoming East. The Lady Warriors defeated Shady Spring to advance.
