UPIKE softball garners academic honors

PIKEVILLE – After recording the most single season wins in program history, the University of Pikeville softball team added to its banner season by earning seven academic honors during an announcement on Wednesday.

Those achieving the honor include Ragan Cutright, Kendra Gannon, Jordan Gentry, Carrie Griffin, Kitty Raymond, Hannah Skaggs and Ashonda Underwood.

The honor was the second straight for Gentry and Griffin.

Gentry and Griffin earn the academic award for the second straight season while the rest of the Bears are first time recipients.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved at least sophomore academic status.

Community Trust Bank is the proud sponsor of the award program.

The 2018 MSC Tournament gets started Friday morning at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green. Sixth-seeded UPIKE opens against No. 3 Georgetown at 1:30 p.m. EST.
