60TH DISTRICT: Belfry works overtime to beat PCC

PHELPS – Belfry dodged a last-second shot in regulation and took control in overtime to beat Pike County Central, 55-49, in the girls’ 60th District Tournament championship game played at the McCoy Athletic Center Feb. 21.

The Lady Pirates, now 13-17, won the game despite turning the basketball over 32 times and now advance to the 15th Region Tournament as the top seed. The Lady Hawks dropped to 20-11 and lost for the second straight time to the Lady Pirates.

Kyera Thornsbury came off the Belfry bench to finish with a game-high 21 points, including 15-of-19 from the foul line. She added eight rebounds.

Linzee Phillips and Kylea Stanley each finished with eight points. McKenzie Maynard was held to just four point but had 14 rebounds and seven blocks.

Cassidy Mullins paced the Lady Hawks with 11 points while Haley Boyd and Kelsi Brinager tossed in 10 apiece. Brinager had seven boards.
