BUCKLEYS CREEK – Pikeville County Central scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to snap a five-all tie and beat Belfry, 8-5, in the 60th District championship game played at PCCHS Field May 20.
It marks the second straight year the Hawks, now 16-17, captured the district title. Belfry dropped to 19-9.
Jonathon Potter came on in relief to get the win while Kaleb Taylor was tagged with the loss.
Evan Coleman had a big night at the plate with three hits, including a pair of doubles while driving in four runs. He also scored once.
Caden Coleman doubled, singled, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI while D’Sean Prinkleton finished with three hits, all singles, walked twice, scored and batted in one run.
Jarrod Stanley had two singles, walked, scored and knocked in two runs while Peyton Compton collected two hits and scored twice.
Sean Cochran had a pair of singles and knocked in two runs in the loss. He scored one run. Brett Coleman doubled in one run and scored while Logan Windle singled, walked twice, scored and added an RBI. Kaleb Taylor had two doubles and scored two runs.
Both teams will begin 15th Region tournament play Saturday at Floyd County Central. The Hawks face Pikeville at 2 p.m., while the Pirates face Shelby Valley at 5 p.m.
