59TH DISTRICT: Pikeville ends long drought

LICK CREEK – The Pikeville Lady Panthers pulled away from Shelby Valley in the second half to capture the 59th District Tournament championship with a 53-37 victory Wednesday night on the Reservation at East Ridge High School.

It’s Pikeville’s first district championship since 2008.

Kirsten Cole-Williamson lead a balanced scoring attack with 16 points as Pikeville moved to 24-7 overall and will go into the 15th Region Tournament next week as a No. 1 seed.

Alivia Gearheart added 11 points and Grace Bartley tossed in 10. Kelsey Jo Tackett and Leslie Stewart added seven each. Stewart finished with 10 rebounds.

Alyssa Elswick was the lone Lady Kat (17-15) to land in double figures. She had 16 points. Tori Hampton tossed in eight.
