PIKEVILLE – For the first time ever, UPIKE softball has swept the Mid-South Conference weekly awards.
Junior Hannah Skaggs and Freshman MacKenzie Pawlak were named MSC Pitcher and Player of the Week on Monday, respectively.
Skaggs got a pair of outstanding wins through the week, only giving up one earned run in 13 total innings. She started the week with a complete game win against Kentucky Christian where she gave up only three hits and struck out six. Skaggs then followed that performance with another complete game win against Alice Lloyd. She once again only gave up three hits, but struck out eight Eagle batters.
Pawlak meanwhile has provided a steady bat in the No. 2 spot of the Bears lineup. Over UPIKE’s four games this past week, Pawlak went 7-16 with an RBI and a triple. She recorded multiple hits in two of UPIKE’s four games and reached base multiple times in three games.
This is the first time each of the two has won a weekly award and the first time any UPIKE softball player has won a weekly award since Jordan Gentry won Player of the Week in April of last year.
UPIKE’s next games will take place throughout the week in Myrtle Beach, S.C. beginning with a 9:30 a.m. contest against Lincoln College on Tuesday.
