15TH REGION: Fast start sends Pikeville past Central

PIKEVILLE – Pikeville ran out to a 16-point, first quarter lead against Pike County Central and the Lady Panthers went on to score a 61-49 victory in the girls’ 15th Region Tournament quarterfinals played at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Central Feb. 28.

The Panthers, now 25-7, never trailed in the game and led by as many as 19 in eliminating the Lady Hawks, who saw their season end at 20-12.

Grace Bartley led four Lady Panthers in double-figure scoring with a game-high 15 points. He also had seven rebounds. Kelsey Jo Tackett finished with 14 while Alivia Gearheart added 11 and Kirsten Cole-Williamson tallied 10 points and seven boards.

Cassidy Mullins paced Pike Central with 14 points while Bailey Birchfield tossed in nine. Haley Boyd and Kelsi Brinager chipped in seven each.
